Hi, Dave @ Insects Unlimited & if they are advertised as non-flying fruit flies, they are for a couple of generations but this is because they have been genetically modified. It`s not a case of in-breeding that causes them to fly again, it`s simply that they are fruit FLIES & when they find out they can`t fly... they evolve... & in a few generations, they fly again. I tried Venus fly traps & they don`t work. This is because they don`t smell like overripe & fermenting fruit & the Venus flytrap eventually died. If you can devise a conical shaped lid with a bit of cellophane & tape it in that position & then cut a tiny hole in the end, fit it into the neck of a jar of ripe fruit or fruit flavoured baby food with the large end facing out & the pointed end facing towards the fruit (similar to a funnel trap), the flies find it easy to get in & almost impossible to get out. It`s fiddly but try it, it works a treat & captures literally hundreds of the pesky little varmints.

Exactly what I do. A pint glass with some over ripe fruit in it, and a suitably sized funnel which you can buy fro kitchen or home brew suppliers, dropped into the pint glass so it fits snugly and the trap is set. Wink

So you end up with bar flies instead of fruit flies. I found both are a pain
