Ive never kept them, yet i do find Indigos quite an attractive snake. I dont think their too common in the UK, unless they've just never been in an shop that ive been in Your ones are very pretty, where did you get them? |

i got mine from a private breeder who was selling up they are 05 babies he was actually very successful with them having a 100% hatch rate!
i think they are more common than people realise though understandably people are reluctant to sell grown on or adult specimens and breeding them from what i've heard is a bit of a challenge, as i think goldenburm said about his blacktail cribo they like to be kept cooler than most colubrids and this applies to all aspects including incubation.
all in all though fantastic snakes to keep can't wait to have a go at breeding them in a few years! |

I have my glorious male indigo at home, looking for more couperi but they are a bit scarce at the moment. I've been moving all my life so my private collection is somewhat limited. I do work with some really amazing snakes at work, I consider them all mine even though its not exactly true
I have a wish list for home that I'm going to endevour to fill in the next year or two.

Nice looking snakes! I do alot of work with a zoo in Holland they say that indigos are one of the few snakes whch show definate health and activity improvements when given UV. So this may be worth bearing in mind. |

Hey,
there is a genetics bod in the US ( Matt Rand) who is collecting skins from captive Eastern Indigos for genetic analysis. I'm sure he would really appreciate as many skins as possible. Anyone want more info on where to send them? This would be really interesting for the captive population and could help avoid any genetic issues later on. I've heard people mention dwarf Indigos which is not a good thing IMHO.
Have a look at the link if you're interested.
Thanks
Al

yeah i have read about 'dwarf' indigo's too they rarely grow over four feet and usually have a sharp downward kink in the spine where the tail begins. they should definitly NOT be used for breeding! i think i read this condition can be caused by incorrect incubation temps. |
