stuart, was it you who had a wee one hatch with a bad deformity. it was all twisted. if it was, how is it doing?

I'm glad to say it wasn't me. I got 11 hatchlings from this clutch out of 14 eggs; 2 were fully developed dead in the egg and one was a tiny 4g baby that made it half way out of the egg before giving up the ghost. Funnily enough the 4g baby was the first to pip and haul himself out...he now has pride of place on the top shelf in the freezer Wink

aw, poor wee guy. sorry, but i cant find the thread and i couldnt remember if it was you. its nice if you hear these wee guys have survived and are doing well, but i suppose if its a bad twist, they wont. Sad

To be honest, if I had one with a severe twist/kink I would probably put it to sleep myself. Such an animal would never survive in the wild and I doubt it would have much quality of live even in captivity if it was disabled in that way and movement was impaired.

AND.... on a lighter note, i suppose they dont HAVE to survive in the wild, they are going to be living in a box in someones house. so if it wasnt a bad twist, and it could eat, shed and get around, then i would probably give it every chance.
but then its hard for humans to gauge when any creature other than themselves is in pain.
