i don't know if that was patronising or not reptileparadise but i'm not a noob to keeping reptiles.
i observe my geckos, just like everything i keep. i just wanted to know how other people heat their vivs, what temps they used and to combine all the conflicting things i've read and been told by all manner of people and get things straight.
thanks for everyones input. _________________ 1.2.0. Geochelone pardalis

you could also get a heat cable , stick it to the back of the fake background or put it into the substrate .
i havent used this method so unsure if it would get hot enough , but its another option _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

i thought of doing that with the heat strip, but at the weekend i bought a couple of infrared bulbs to try different wattages and got rid of the naff red bulb in the top canopy box. the canopy is on the closer part of the mesh and on the back half is a 75w infrared bulb on a ceramic clamped dome thingie.
i found an old dimmer stat that had to be converted from a kettle plug connector (anyone remember those? ) but now low temp is perfect and high temp is around 26 at the top.
the bulb sounds powerful but because of the dimmer stat, emits just a tiny red glow. it does the trick in my cold house. i'm really happy with the change because now i can observe them better at low light.
take care.
