Thanks again. Fingers crossed I've got away with it then.

I'm certainly not smelling anything at the moment! Laughing

This happened to me a few time when incubating here (lots of power cuts)

I had retic, ring, burmese pythons in the warmer incubator (31.5c)

This went down a few times to around the same temps as yours,

all the rings were fine (strangely at about the same time of incubation as yours!!)

A couple of the retic had the tips of tehir tails kinked, and some of the burmese came out a bit funky.

Hopefully yours will be ok !!

Well, I'm relieved to say my jungle carpets finally hatched, albeit, three days later than expected. All look in good health, despite their recent temperature traumas. On the downside, I've lost several ringed python eggs, but everything else looks fine.

Thanks for your comments.

Good news re carpets, bummer about the rings:

Do you turn the heat down in the last week or so of incubation?

How are you incubating your ring eggs?

Cheers

Hi Jon

I've not previously reduced incubation temperatures in the week preceeding hatching. I've heard this being done with GTPs, but not other species. Do you do this with all your breeders? I'm probably going to try this with my womas this year, as this could have been the problem with my reduced hatch rate last year.

I use the no substrate method for all my eggs. It's always worked for me in the past, so I've just stuck with it. What method do you recommend for Bismarks?

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob for the rings I used a dry method,

I put the eggs on thick tissue paper inside a smallish box, this was then put inside a larger box which had vermiculite to provide the humidity(the small box had hundreds of perforations). I incubated them at usual python temps, I have heard that some people incubate them at 28 with very good results.

Yes I reduce all the snake eggs temps at the end of incubation, a crazy old guy in the UK first explained that to me. His theory was that if you leave the eggs at full temperature to the end of incubation the yolk is a little hard when absorbed, this is then more difficult to digest and slows the initial feeding and can cause problems.
It does work very well for me, and some species which are supposedly slow at starting to feed, feed quickly after hatching sometimes even before they slough !

It can be difficult to manage in large incubators, but it is possible.
