Laying inverted is often a good indicator of a heavily gravid female. Most believe it enables them to get more warmth to the eggs from direct sunlight out in the wild.

Here are a couple of my pride and joy - Loca, my 5 month old Neapolitan Mastiff. She is from old type, working lines - not the big slobbery show variety!
