but realy she just sleeps where ever she happens to be when the lights go out

So she always sleeps on the ground. But also she normally sleeps where she is when the lights go out! Wink bit confusing.

I was under the impression these guys in the wild would like to dig/slightly burrow at night to sleep its safer for them. in captivity its just instinct.

I agree with that, at night deserts get real cold so they would look to get some cover and keep warm from the sand where it has been heated up throughout the day. Very Happy

Should I provide him with some sort of dark hide area for him to go into?
If I do, wont the crickets get in there and be hard to remove at night?

The digging at night is normal. However, I would not leave any crickets in there that are not eaten within 15 mins of feeding. The crickets, esp the blacks, will nibble on your lil beardie and also having them around all the time is not good either as the beardies get bored of them. They always eat better when feed in a short time frame each day.
