he may be small but he is absolutely beautiful. and again an amazing name. rats are more nutritious, but i have some that absolutely will not touch them.

Thanks Lynne! I don't really know why he is so afraid of rats or he just doesn't like them.

but my kya was like that with mice, which was one of the reasons she wouldnt eat. the second i put one in she just recoiled. once she panicked so much she battered off each wall of her tub then nearly drowned trying to get away from the mouse. in fact at that time she was on fuzzies. but ours are dead remember.
she is fine now but it took her a long time, and she is one who will not touch rats. in fact the only ones she will accept is small mice. if i try her with bigger again she recoils.

well kya was a chronic non feeder. i had to tube feed her for 3 weeks, but then when she had a bit of strngth up she struck and ate a small mouse. and i mean small. and she is still eating these. i have tried to feed her medium mice, but its small she wants. what i do do is feed her twice a week. and she wont take any more than one at a sitting. wee sod! but compared to riyaz she is tiny(royal). she may always be smaller than the rest, but i dont care as long as she is well and happy, and i would never think about breeding with her, knowing my luck she would become eggbound or something. can you not try getting the smell of the mouse onto the rat and see if that would help. or maybe it is the size of the rats he is afraid of. perhaps try a smaller sized rat? even a large weaner till he gets the taste for them.
