Those spiny scales are very prominant on my male. Someone on another monitor forum also told me there is sexual dimorphism in head shape too. I think the males heads are slightly longer in the snout. Don't quote me tho!

Cheers

Kate

Well i took some photos of the female today to try and get some better shots of these scales/spurs, i will load them up later see how they look Smile
On a happier note i now know i have male & female because i have just seen proper copulation between them, not like before which has just been chasing, biting around the nape and attempted copulation which always fails as she walks off.
Today was my youngest sons 3rd birthday and the front room was full of noisey, bouncing, door slaming, floor rumbling, viv poking fiends and these two monitors weren't taking the blindest bit of notice as they were busily going at it!!
I took some shots but they are through glass and dont really show much.
Dont matter, i saw what was happening Shocked
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I find if you have a genuine pair it is quite easy to tell them apart. males obviously have the spines by the vent, head is much bigger/broader, limbs, especially rear legs much chunkier. a good indicator for me is the females head shape, much more pointed almost bird like. also females colour/pattern tends to be much duller.

I was told the other way round with the heads, with the males having more pointy faces..... Confused

I'm now wondering about Barney, he has prominant spiny scales round his vent but has a fairly pointy face... Confused sold to me as male at 13months tho

All seems very hit and miss with so many variables its very confusing.
Cant get any photos of my female as she is rarely out these days but i do have this:
Males left spur.

Right spur.

Did i post these already?? oh well.
Then theres this, although you cant see actual copulation from the photo, you could from close up, i didnt want to disturb them for photos close up.
This proves to me 99% that i have both sexes so when convenient for her i will get shots of her spurs and see if there is a reliable difference or much at all?

Dont look now but we have a dogger!!

Heads
