Stunning Varanus.
I know you have said before and I could search for it but what is the substrate in the photo and where do you purchase it from?
Thanks |

Yep, i've 3 normals that should be 'hets'. They are even more stunning as they get bigger. _________________

It's Calcium Carbonate, used as a supplment for horses and cows. Go to any large horse feed supplier. _________________

They are leucistic, well that's the best way I would describe them. They are quite 'pinky' but also plenty of white. They still have a faint pattern on them too. Eyes are black as per normal animals.
They really are great monitors to watch, looking forward to creating a nice 'natural' rock background for them. _________________

ok as i thought ,yeah i can imagine those small monitors must be a blast to watch.are you keeping them as a big group or in pairs?
Are you making the backround yourself?
i tried that once it didnt work out at all the backround weighted like 100 kg and looked very bad,i have seen some books about making rock backgrounds maybe i should pick one up sometime and give it another try. |

I'm rearing them as a 'foursome', then will split depending on how lucky I get with the sexes (1 leucistic male & 3 het females would be spot on )
I'm going to have a go myself, there is a great link in the Viv section here, looked simple using polystrene and epoxy resin and sand. _________________
