Great images and some amazing finds - especially the strange frog, eyelash viper, and of course the bush viper ]
Did you experience any adverse affects from the colubrid bite? _________________

Lucklily that was my friends hand!
And no reaction just a bunch of blood!
The worst i suffered this trip was a couple of hundred insect bites. chronic rash in a sensetive area and severe bruising after falling over.
Still got the jet lag.....not too much to moan about _________________ Live for today as your dead for a long long time

That's the best kind of bite!
Did you use any particular techniques when searching for the snakes, or just look under logs etc, and in the branches?
PS - What the hell is happeining in the road in that pic? _________________

I assume you mean the drugged up guy?
Just found him lying there and as we drove round him he woke up swore in spanish and wobbled off up the hill!!!
All successes were with road riding, long night walks and about 18-20 hours a day searching.
Good fun but that why my wife stays at home!!!! _________________ Live for today as your dead for a long long time

Can't even begin to tell you how envious I am of you visiting that incredible place!!
Great shots of some gorgeous animals. Looks like you had a great time too, walking around the rainforest you must have been in your element.
I'm particulary envious because you happened across 2 of my favourite vipers.
The Jumping viper you found was Atropoides mexicanus- the Central American Jumping Pit-Viper, a snake I was trying to get hold of a little while back. Must have been awesome seeing it in the wild like that!
And also ( don't want to sound like a know-it-all ) but, personally, I dis-like the name fer de lance simply because it's used for practically every Bothrops species people come across.
Your 2 exellent shots are of the Terciopelo-Bothrops asper...only the most dangerous snake in costa-rica!!
Thanks for posting, nice to see pics of animals in their natural enviroment _________________ You can't trust the snake......but you can always trust the snake to be a snake. |
