i don't think that's the article but i just did a quick search of Forbes website and it didn't bring anything up so maybe it wasn't them that stated it, like i said its something i heard in conversation and never bothered to check it out for accuracy. either way if you know what your doing and have the money to invest in the first place there is potentially a lot of money to be made, it just a shame its such an unsure market with regards to the rate of depreciation of value from one breeding season to the next.

cheers, will

That would be my worry...I was considering getting a few caramel albinos to breed in the future, but I'm worried by the time they could breed the prices would have dropped loads. Having said that its still pretty expensive to buy even an albino royal.

houses are the same, some are £200K, others are £1.5M+

buy the snakes cos you like them, if you feel the value may drop and leave you 'out of pocket' then wait a year of two, then buy them. Smile

i did, and then some.

this is also when babies pieds were 12k a piece and albinos were 4k.

when i found subadults for 20k a pair i would have felt a fool to NOT jump on it.

it is a ton of money to spend.

but animals are an investment just as stocks or leaving your house every day.

its all risky.

imagine if i would have bought those balls back then and got them home and they died a few days later.

granted it didnt happen.

but it could have.

you never know what the future holds.

all i know is there is a great reason they are highly coveted animals.

they are gorgeous.

I keep things simple, I aim to get back the cost of the breeding pair from their first clutch and then subsequent clutches are a bonus.

Say a pair of albinos for instance, if I paid around £4000 for a pair in 05, then in 07 with a bit of luck I'd have a clutch of 100% albinos, say 4 eggs and selling the babies at £1200. That's my money back Laughing Of course that's not including any hets that I've produced along the way Wink

Of course the other fun part of all this is actually aiming at producing something 'new' say the first albino mojaves or Pied Pinstripes Cool
