crested eggs will hatch at ambient room temps no problem, just make sure the sun doesn't hit the egg box.

My eggs are just on a shelf in the crestie room, temps vary from the low 60's up to the mid 80's.

The eggs don't need to be buried, just make a dent with your thumb in the substrate and place each egg in the dent, this just stops the eggs rolling over.

I have got them in a cupboard in a room where the sun doesn't directly shine into it.

Does it matter that there wont be any light getting into it?

I have it in this cupboard as it keeps it at a good temperature (Since about 16:00 today it has been from 75-75.7 degrees F, also it is a cupboard that no-one ever goes into, and most importantly, the cat can't get to it!

Yeah, I have put the dint in the soil. When we got them out the tank, we noticed there is a small dint in the egg, it goes up quite a bit of the egg, but isn't very deep, does this seem bad or not?

Thanks for all your replies Very Happy

No, no light is fine.

Sounds like you need to add a little more moisture, the eggs should be fully filled out, no dents. If they do dent for a day or so and then fill back out after adding more moisture they should be fine.

good luck

Right then, I don't know if this is too soon or not but I tried 'Candling' just now. It wasn't a very strong light (Just my phone light), but thought I would try.

However, I am not exactly sure what I need to look out for...What I saw in both was a red 'blob' in the middle, then on both there was a little red line that went accross the egg underneath the 'blob'. Around the 'blob' it was a yellowish colour.

Now if this is too early to check then I will try again another time (Any advice on when). But does this sound good or bad? Or just can't tell 'cause it was so soon!

P.S. The eggs were laid on thursday morning.

Here's an image of a candled cornsnake egg:

It's not the best image but it's the only one I have at the moment. When you shine the light on the egg you should be able to clearly see a definite red vein.
