|
|
Hi all I was wondering if keeping dwarf hamsters in the same room as my corn snake and Hog Island boa would cause a major problem (assuming hamster doesn't escape and get into snakes cage or vice versa). I'm not sure if the smell of the hamsters would make the snakes think they were being fed all the time? |

I have loads of mice in the same room with no problems at all. They might react at first to a new smell but should get over it lol.
They still react more to the smell of rodents being defrosted then to the live ones. _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

It always makes me laugh, this sort of situation. It's like "here's your food, but you can't get to it"... I know someone who has a load of rats in the same room as a bunch of boas and royals... they must look out, thinking "if only..."!!!!!!!

Oddly enough when a mate's Royal went walkies, it didn't bother going anywhere near the 20 rats in the room....!!

It's shouldn't be a problem at all, I've often a cage of rodents in my room without any problems.
I did many years ago have an Asian water monitor smash out of it's cage via the air vents, break into my 'rotastack' hamster cage and eat my hamster then it regurgitated it and ran off up a hole in the wall (lizard was about 5ft long), we knocked most of the wall down to get him back. I wasn't very popular back then _________________

What about the hamsters, do you think they could smell the snakes? A friend of mine used to keep pet mice and pet rats in the same room and the mice were always very jumpy and didnt seem to eat lots, always wondered if it was because the rat smell made them jumpy? _________________ 1 male caramel corn snake, Loki

The mice I have are complete pigs, eat loads. They dont seem threatened by the snake smell at all, fine to handle, not skittish at all. I think their oblivious really that there are snakes in the room. _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

Spot on
Rats eat mice and mice know it.
My mice stopped breeding for six months after my son put his pet rat into my mouse house.
I put the rat into my monitor about six weeks ago and now the mice have started breeding again. |
