I haven't posted any photos for a while and took a few in the past couple of days, so I thought I'd share them.

My adult male lace monitor. Unfortunately he's dirty from leaf litter almost all of the time. There's a tiny patch of freshly shed skin down his right hand side, just in front of his knee, but the rest is varying degrees of slightly dirty to completely brown and dull. I should use aspen shavings.

(he's not really fat, he's flattened out and relaxed)

the male perentie at my place of work. White sand... keeps him clean looking.

A little lace monitor I held back from the most recent clutch. Striped like a tiger and hard to tell if it's a black lizard with yellow markings (as lace monitors are meant to be) or a yellow lizard with black stripes. It may end up like its father, with a bit of luck (except for the dirt bit).

Some egg photos from the past couple of months, and a comparison.

Lace monitor eggs. These aren't huge for my female, but about average at ~40grams each. They were laid in January. Her biggest eggs have been 46gm.

Perentie eggs in the same sized egg box. These were also laid in January. Not huge for this female at 80-90gm each, but massive compared to the lace monitor eggs.

Both of the above clutches were the second clutch for the season for these females.
This is the first perentie clutch from earlier in the season. These suckers were a massive 90-110gm. This photo was taken immediately after collection, and the clutch was later split up into three separate egg boxes for incubation.

the lacie looks fab dave --- (the perentie is nice too - prefer the lace myself though)

Do you find that with successive clutches the egg size gets smaller?

If so does this impact upon incubation time, egg viability and hatchling survival?

They are both equally stunning varanids.

Do the perenties lay there eggs in the sand are do you provide a nest area.

Great pic's Dave. Perentie for me. i know they get dirty, but i like the natural look of the leaf litter. i use a thin covering on top of soil/sand mix in my Argus enclosure...
