For youngsters (6months and under) I use kitchen roll. After that I use coco-fibre.

I've got repti carpet in both of my gecko's vivs at the moment. Crickets can't hide and it's easy to clean Very Happy

I use a 4" layer of peat, compressed and compacted down really well, I then fill the enclosure with fake plant vine type plants. NO Water bowl, I just let a deli cup with a hole in the base drip a cup of water through the plants each night.

The peat works well at holding a great humidity, no water bowl removes the risk of babies drowning, and the fact it drips through the viv means they can all see the droplets.

It is important to keep the peat moist and well compacted though. I don't like loose 'fluffy' substrate. I've also NEVER used paper tissue for babies but do switch to just newspaper for geckos over 2".
