Great so long as stat does not fail and end up with fried reptile.
Genereal advice is always make sure got a cool end for animal to escape to.

If the 'cool' stat breaks to go on full power, then the the coolest area is the basking spot, which is still hot.
Is there any requirement for a not-as-cool cool side? _________________

When i used the word fried it was metaphorical not literal to press the point that it is dangerous not to have a cool side away from a heat source.
IMAGINE
its a hot day.
the hot side is set at a average 86 surface temp. The cool side fails and the temp goes up to 110, the whole tank overheats because you are at work and cannot hear the thermometer alarm going off.. when you get home you have a very distressed animal/animals.
Most literature including the instructions that come with heatmats categorically say only heat one end of the enclosure.

My little scenario only works if probes are on the ouside of the tank taped to the heatmat with the tank resting on top of the heatmat.
if one fails and overheats and the stat probe is on the inside the other stat should cut off when temp is reached so reptile will have very hot plus just right in tank. So it is a possibility in some circumstances but not reccomended.
I was only thinking of the way I keep snakes in a rack.

If its a 6x2x2 I would think of using a ceramic on a pulse stat Mark...Unless the cooler end is getting exceedingly cold I wouldn't worry about additional heating that end... _________________
