Thought it would be interesting to list the species that were kept & bred over the years that have now seem to of disappeared and possible reasons why.

I'm not talking extinct but not as easy to obtain as a few years back, a few examples;

Black Pine snakes
Speckled King snakes
Northen Pines
Tranpecos Rats

Speckled king snakes is a great example. Stunning animals in my view too.

Frog wise , Dendrobates truncatus used to be very common. People bred them in quantities, and before long the "market" was saturated. Then not enough people bred them and now they are like Rocking horse manure. I have three but they took some locating and came from Europe, but were hard enough to locate over there.

We don`t see the lacertids like we used to. I remember when Lacerta viridis were everywhere . Very rarely see them now although I wouldn`t say they have disssapeared completely.

Reeves terrapins, Chinemys reevesii. they were fantastic captives, not growing too large and easily accomodated. Far more suited to captivity and far more active than the red eared slider. You would be very hard pushed to find any over here now though.

Speckled kingsnakes though, really cannot remember the last time I saw one and yes, they used to be everywhere.

wall lizards & lacertids, yep there were stacks of those although 95% were wc imports, it's just a shame that more notice on import bans isn't given to the general public so that breeding groups can't be set up.
