Hey, I have already posted twice, bit new to this forums malarkey. This is a much more civilized approach.
I've been keeping and catching snakes since I was about 5, and due to a hectic ex-pat family spent some time all over the place. I've finally settled in my 31st year.
I've been living in Jersey for about 4 years working at the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust/Jersey Zoo in the reptile house. Some pretty cool herps and amphibs. I have an Eastern Indigo (hoping to live up to the username) at home but would really like to start making headway on my own collection. Snakes are my passion but I think practically any herp is amazing.
Good to see so many passionate people around
Bless up
Al |

Welcome to the forum. Jersey zoo is one of my favourite places and Gerald Durrel I looked up to since I was old enough to walk and talk. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Well now its my turn to be jealous!!! Like PP, Jersey Zoo is one of my favourite places. Been there twice in the last four or five years. I really like the reptile house too - not huge but with well thought out displays .
Cheers,
Mark. |

Hi Al,
Been to Jersey once in 05, enjoyed the Zoo, thought the reptiles were well displayed although perhaps lacking in variety or 'interesting' species. The eyelash vipers looked great. I've a friend who used to work at reptile house @ Jersey zoo many years ago.
So what's the deal with herpetology in Jersey? any shops? how would a private keeper increase their collection etc?
Enjoy the forums. _________________

Ahh, the joy of a behind the scenes area that's 4 times bigger than the exhibit, plenty of fun stuff out the back, knock on the door next time you visit.
The Eyelash female gave birth last week
Herps in Jersey is shockingly bad, the reptile shops are poorly run with very little specialist knowledge of what or how to keep, just my opinion but from what I've seen... I have friends who "rescue" animals from the pet shops!
There is very little more than corns and royals here, and in order to get anything over that I want, I have to take the ferry and drive to pick up the animals. Makes getting a decent collection very difficult and expensive. Try adding £250 to the price of every snake you buy
