Sorry mate, I use most of my mats in racks. What I do is tape the probe to the actual mat and set my stat to the highest temp thet I want it to get to. That way the stat cuts it off when it reaches the said temp.

In a viv, I would have your probe at the "Hot" end near the heat source (mat). Set your stat to the temp you want the hot end to reach.

That way you can build up a temperature gradient and your snake can move from cool to warm and vice versa as you have already noticed it doing. Wink

Put the probe just under the substrate on the hot end - ie where ever the snake is going to be.
There's no point putting it on the mat if the snake isnt going to touch the mat.

No, the opinions are exactly the same. In a rack I tape to the mats, and as I said in a viv put the probe NEAR the mat. i.e. hot end. Or as Dan said, under the substrate hot end. Wink

I take it your using a viv?

Sounds good to me for a start - just fine tune it dependant on how it reacts.
