See as I have been asked so nicely here are some pics of my red foots enclosures

yes red foots need humidty, but it isnt air humidity they need they need the ground humidity.

How do you do that?
Well you need a substrate that hold water such as top soil and play sand mixed 50/50 or repti bark or childrens play bark. Sand and soil is best for hatchlings.

Make sure you spray this 2-5 times a day(plus tortoise). Humidity should be 70% +.

You will have a certain amount of air humidity but not as much as 70% which is needed.

stuart I think most tortoises are kept in a open top table so most of the humidity would evaporate

i agree but they are only a few inches tall so would have thought the air would still be quite humid that they breathe in..?

You're probably right Stuart but if kept in open top enclosures you shoudn't end up with 'stale / stuffy' humid air which is what is actually bad for them.

Sounds like a delicate balance. Nice to see some tortoise posts. Thanks for sharing Sarah. Wink

Top soil mixed 50/50 with children's play sand yes, i change it very month, but give it a spot clean every day.
