Hi everyone, I'm new here but i have been frantically searching for moorish gecko info. Which i have to say is immensely rare Mad .
I noticed a few people on here keep/have kept them and was wondering if anyone knows of any CB juves available anytime soonish. Have researched as much as possible and have read the threads on here, and it's a shame they aren't more readily available, personally i think they are gorgeous and much nicer than cresteds.
Any info will be much appreciated!!

Hello, welcome to the forum!

Don't know much about moorish geckos.. I saw a couple in our local reptile shop and admit they do look lovely.. but I was told that moorish geckos are much more flighty than cresties and will barely tolerate being handled.... which put me off....

Umm... That's all the info I have! lol Laughing I personally prefer cresties...

What reptiles do you keep at the moment?

You really shouldn't handle them. I had to once with one (had stuck shed) and it didn't like it at all.

They are a cool little species, but delicate, small and secretive.

Maybe look at tokays if handling isn't important, IMO they are the best ever looking gecko!

Smile

I have lots of those geckos around my house. But it's illegal to capture and keep them, because it is a protected animal, just as most of Europe's fauna.
Despite being 'illegal to keep' i have being kept one for the last week, just to observe its habits...then I will release him...
It's all time changing colours from almost white to dark brown. They feed on flies, spiders, butterflies and other insects.
If you'll have these geckos, that's pretty nice if you feed them on crickets, and, if they are young, also fruit flies...

They are prone to stress, so if you want to grab them frequently, it's not the gecko you'll want...these geckos will also get is tail of if frightened.

For more information on these geckos or even other animals of Portuguese fauna, just ask!

cheers

Yes, it's illegal...just as all the other species of native animals(which I think is right, though)

Only to know: here, that's even illegal to own any kind of boa and python... The government say that they are 'dangerous'...LOL...it's the only country in EU with this stupid law...I think I'll move to the UK...LOL

Well I'm not too bothered about handling, but i am thinking about breeding...it would be great if there were more CB ones around. And i have heard from people that breed them the cb babies tame down better and aren't as timid as WC ones, though not like a crestie. Thank you for all of the replies!!I didn't realise the laws were that strict in Portugal, jees...we can even keep 25ft burmese pythons and anacondas over here, and numerous venomous nasties. But you do need a special license.
I do like the look of Tokay's, but i don't know... i guess their reputation as the baddest gecko has put me off slightly, might try breeding the Moorish and see how the cb babies turn out. If they are still just as bad then a display gecko they are! Very Happy Bearing in mind i wasn't expecting to be able to go over and pick it up, just to have it sit on my hand. Mhhmmm...there are so many different reps to choose from Confused
I keep a single Leo ATM, i was thinking of breeding her but she is a solitary creature...lovely with it though, called lilo just a bog standard normal phase Very Happy

Oh you lucky guys...
No, we can keep them only if we are a zoo or something like that...
and, if I had a python and someone do a complait to the police about that, they would come to my house, take the snake out, and let it (probably) dying in an enclosure with poor conditions, because our authorities cannot even distinguish a burmese python from a corn snake (and this kind of situation is true!)...

(sorry about my English...)

I've kept a couple of old adults that were free roaming in my shed a while back, they were nice looking geckos but as has been said definately not for handling. They're so cheap as wc (£5 if that) that I doubt you'll be able to get anything for cb babies because there just isn't a market but that is definately not to say don't try breeding them!

Some of the smaller Tarentola species are really nice, like the mindae, but a lot more expensive and harder to find then the mauritanica Cool
