Moss; right when you buy your bag of moss from the local rep shop, it is usually half dead with a few green bits, I am talking about the long stringy type moss. Cant be more precise with THE LATIN name as I have not got a clue! Laughing

OK, so the unused stuff, how can it be kept alive? Can it be grown from what is left over in the bag?

I was thinking of placing it in a tray in the garden in the shade, and keep it moist after bedding it down on some topsoil? Problem would be invading insects that may carry parasites?

Could replicate this indoors?

Next question, moss in aquarium set up's e.g. frogs, newts , toads, salamanders etc.

How best to keep alive, I am using arcadia freshwater lights and just spray the stuff, and lightly bed it down onto substrate?

I have heard that when moss breaks down it can cause burns to amphibians? True or false please?

DO you mean sphagnum moss?
http://images.google.co.uk/images?svnum=10&hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=sphagnum&spell=1
?

If so, put it in a tray of water and it should grow.
