Hi
can anyone tell me if you have to use a wooden table? I have seen an extremely large cat litter tray, which looks ideal for my baby leopard tortoise as he's only 3 inches long, but it's that durable plastic stuff?

should be ok as long as it does not get too hot . I personally think wood ones are better but thats only my opinion |

A large open top plastic tray would be fine, the only thing you need to watch for is the plastic getting to hot and melting. This will all depend on the plastic type. Test it for 48 hrs before using with your tortoise. _________________

He will get back to you just he works nights here and there and could be asleep.
As for the table I just use them to rest my plate for my lunch! Soz I know nowt about Torts. What is Tort table actually used for just out of curiousity? Always wanted to Know but been afraid to ask! I have an idea but to ask!

a tortoise table is basically an open topped vivarium that's raised off the ground (to prevent cold floor / draughts).
You can use or modify ANYTHING so long as the basic concept is met...Ie. Open Topped, enough of a barrier around to stop tortoise climbing out, sturdy, and can be heated from above (ceramic or spot light). By keeping it open topped you don't have to worry about stale / humid air or over heating, the tortoise can move under the heat when needed and back to cooler areas.
You would need to check that the basking temp matches your species and that the background ambient temp is also suitable (ie. a tropical tortoise on a tortoise table in the garage wouldn't work in winter).
The pic of the table above would be fine if you can make sure it meets the above points. _________________
