I just found my 6-7 week old royal coughing/sneezing into her water bowl (I was alerted by a sound much similar to someone gargling water coming from her cage)
This can't have been long after she shed this evening she Had a bit of skin on her tail intact (I'll deal with that in a bit) I am more worried about the mass of runny, dark brown sticky liquid she seems to have passed. It doesn't smell and looks very much like dark blood. There was alto of it all up the side of her box.
Please help anyone, is she in any danger?

When did she last feed?
Check her mouth and see if that's clear
Are you sure the brown gooey stuff was from her mouth not her bum?
Can you give us a description of setup - housing, temps etc to give us a better idea of things as we may be able to offer advice there.
If she's really really not right then i'd strongly suggest saying sodd the net and be phoning a vet, better to look daft and know you try to help than keep your pride, go later and be told sooner would've helped.

She fed just over a week ago, I left her in blue about 2 days ago so she missed this weekends feed.
She is in a 2ftx1.5ft clear ventilated tub thermo controlled at 80-85 c the hottest down to around 70c cool. The humidity is up around 60-70% admittedly a bit dry as she kept a small bit of her shed.
She has been eating well and behaving as normal no symptoms or obvious mouth problems.
The mess definitely came from her back end as there was a fair bit left around her tail. I have given her a quick rub with a warm wet towel to clean her up and get rid of the skin.
Other than that she seems fine now active and looking hungry. I am unable to contact any vet tonight in this area, the earliest is 9am frustratingly.
I have no idea what could have caused this and as I can't get hold of my vet right this second any help from anywhere would be appreciated. Thanks!

sound weird id definitely get her checked out by a vet. also noticed you've put the temps in Celsius but i think you might mean Fahrenheit if so then i think your temps could do with being bumped up around 90F hot end to 80/82F cold end. |

i would definately see a vet. no one can guess things as complicated as this sounds. definately up temps. like james says 90 hot end and an ambient temp between 80 and 75, preferably 80. _________________

OK I have moved up the temps, the read was done just after I had cleaned out all the mess so it may have been a little inaccurate as the cage was off the heat for a bit.
Yeh its going to be vets a.s.a.p. I had a talk with a reptile shop owner who seems to think it is normal if its been a bit of a difficult shed but I don't want to take his word on it as its unlike anything I have seen keeping snakes before. My main worry is internal bleeding but god knows how anything like that could have happened to her, theres no way she can fall or get squashed.
thanks for the help

No it was just a thick sticky brown liquid, it didn't smell at all and very much resembled old blood
It wasn't wrapped in the shed but seems to have been ejected directly after.
Would there be any possibility of an irritation to the gut digesting the rats or a foreign body to cause a bit of bleeding?
There is no sign of any more blood now 2 hours on.

Take a swab of the liquid and get it to a vet. Or PM vetdave on the forum and ask for his advice. |

there is no point anyone trying to guess. only a vet can give you information on what it is. or indeed vetdave, i keep forgetting about him. he has a website, does anyone have a link?? _________________
