Just spoke to my insurers today about some changes to my policy only to be told that they no longer accept GTPs and ETBs on policies, it's Exotics Direct btw. What comanies do you insure your GTPs and ETBs with? and how much are their premiums? |

I had the same issues but I think someone on the forum (not sure which one though) said I was wrong but its interesting to see your having the same problems. _________________ Live for today as your dead for a long long time

I've just spoken to them again and their underwriters will accept the Emmy and the new GTP based upon the fact that I've had a GTP on there for a year with no claims. However, the lady I spoke to said they are not accepting any new policies for ETB's and GTP's due to the amount of claims that they have had to pay out for these two species. |

Do you guys find those insurance policies value for money? I've heard that they are very expensive and often exclude a whole range of problems that may occur (anything related to breeding, for example).
How many animals are you insuring on policies like this?
thanks

It costs me £161 a year for the Emmy, a GTP and a Panther cham'. I'm thinking of getting the cham taken off tho.
There are exclusions, i.e the cham isn't covered for MBD. I've mainly got it for theft or death tho' Having said that, anybody wants to risk getting in here to nick these will need a sizeable insurance policy of their own |

i have the more expensive ones insured. with exotics direct. but to be honest i would be cheaper just putting something away every month. so im going to do that when its renewal time.
iv never had to claim on the insurance, and have a big dog, plus the snakes are upstairs so anyone wanting to nick them would have to get from one end of house to the other, then up the stairs before the dog got them.
the only exclusions i had were any snake that cost under £100 was only insured for vets bills, and any breeding stuff. _________________

they insure any exotic. but like i said i am just going to put something away every month. it means they wont be insured for death, but who wants to gain from a pets demise anyway. _________________

For me, insurance is of limited use.
The ones i have looked into getting simply don't cover the events that are likely, in my case, to result in a claim ( breeding for example ).
Thankfully i have a good relationship with my vet and if ever ANY of my animals need treatment, i simply take them along, without having to worry about the bill. After treatment, i can take my animal home and then pay a little each month until the bill is paid off. ( Even when i don't have an animal at the vets, i pay something to the vet so i have money in reserve should something happen ) _________________ Fraser Gilchrist
