spent quite a long time at work trying to work this out, with little success.

axanthics are recessive, so if a co-dom is bred to a wild type, offspring are all hets

if an axanthic is bred to a pastel, I first assumed that offspring will be all hets again presumably, and be pastel colour. Then I thought some more....

so how do you produce an axanthic pastel. Does the axanthic gene and pastel gene act totally separately. If the latter, presumably the F1 generation of this cross would be an axanthic pastel?

basically the axanthics are recessive so for example you have an axy male, you then mate this male to a pastel female who is co dom.all the babies will be het axanthic and statistically half the babies will be pastels(het axanthic) what you would need to do now is pair the father back to a pastel het axy and 50 % of the clutch would hatch as axanthics but also because the female you have used is also pastel half the clutch will hatch as pastels too so you have a shot at hatching pastel's het axanthic, axanthics, pastel axanthics and het axanthics.if you was to pair 2 pastels het axanthic together you would get the same outcomes exept you could possibly hatch super pastel's and super pastel axanthics.non of the babies would be definate hets though only 66% poss het axathics Wink

so therefore the pastel gene and axanthic gene (if homo) can both be expressed in the same snake ie the pastel colouration exists with the axanthic colouration, rather then dominating it, as in a wild type.
So the yellow of the pastel is taken out by the axantic and you get the very black and silver axanthic pastel

Jamie what would you consider to be the best line of Xanthics to buy, I have been pwrking on the principle that the VPI line are the best, as I've read that you need to pick a line with Xanthics and stick to it, as they don't necessarily mix together well.

That's what I thought, I think they are also considered to be the best line, but I'm not 100% sure on that Very Happy
