|
|
I've been considering getting my first GTP. Is there any difference within the locality's (IE: ease of care, better feeders, temperament, etc) if so, which would be the one to go for? I really like the look of the Jayapura, the contrast between the greens and the blue highlights.
Also, could the GTP keepers post pics of your set ups please
Thanks |

From my experience Biaks are slightly more forgiving than other localities.
Contrary to what some people say some Biaks are easy going and do not bite. _________________ Live for today as your dead for a long long time

i personally don't keep GTPs yet, but have read abit about them so will try and answer your questions. I think they are all kept the same so i don't think any type is easier to care for than another but i think some get slightly bigger then others. i don't remember reading anything about one type being a better feeder then another type so id say there the same but as with most snakes some individuals are more picky then others. With temperament i believe that some types are better then others but again with most types of snake you can get ones that tolerate humans better then others. i think its the biak type which are considered worse then others. i would also advise getting Greg Maxwell's the more complete chondro book if you haven't already got a copy. sorry i cant help you anymore but at least it will act as a bump and hopefully somebody with more experience will answer your questions. also have a look through the information on www.finegtp.com its got quite alot of info. |

I would just go for the one you like the look of the most as an adult,if you buy a well established feeder from a good quality breeder, you should do just fine, like the guys said if are thinking of getting a chondro the complete chondro book has everything you need to know about keeping them healthy and happy. |

I keep a large collection of gtp's and my biaks are nut cases.
All the other localities are chilled when changing water etc but I have to be quick with my biaks.
Must admit though they are stunning to look at.
I have baby jayapura for sale! Pm if interested. |

If its your first GTP I would suggest only buying from an experienced breeder who should be able to give you good support & ongoing advice. Also try to get a grown on, well established, CB snake. If you don't care which locality you have I would also suggest trying to get a hand tame animal and make that your priority .... Biaks do have a bad reputation however there are tame ones around. You are however more likely to find a tame mainland GTP. Its also a good idea to read Greg Maxwells excellent book, the More Complete Chondro.
Have fun, GTPs are great snake.
cheers, John
