hi guys, been thinking all day about putting a reptile radiator in my royals viv (2.5'Wx1'Dx20"H) to maintain air temperature at night. during the day it gets up to 84 but during the night goes as low as 77 and last night when i stupidly Mad left the window open a little bit it went down to 75 which i didn't notice till this morning. i don't really want to put a ceramic in the viv as Ive been told they kill humidity and don't really like the idea of a light being on during the night and as these are slim it wont hang down to much. It probably wont even be on much but i just don't want it to get that low again. what are your opinions? and if i do get one should i put it up the hot end or in the middle? obviously i will have it statted which i will probably set to 80?

i have seen mine go down to 79 through the night, but i heat the whole room to 80. also mine are in tubs and not in vivs. i must admit i put a ceramic in my boas viv, and i do like them.

I use radiators with my basins and gtp's and highly recommend them. I connect them to the lucky reptile pro 2 stat.

I had a similar problem last night, and I think my temps have been dropping at night for a week or so and I didn't realise, which might account for them not feeding especially Piper. Like Lynne I'm now heating the whole room to around 80f and even my insulation now has insulation, I'm not taking the chance, I've also bought an air purifier and a humidifier to keep the air clean and humid, as the water bowls on the radiators aren't doing the job, and I'd rather spend the money and prevent them getting ill and the subsequent vets bills and the extra stress forthem by actually having to transport them to the vets. I'm actually thinking of installing underfloor heating when I change the carpet over to either laminate or tiles in the room Very Happy

I've got a radiator with thermostat, for my Royal. It's in the centre of the viv on the ceiling, just to keep the ambient temp up. (Heatmat does it's job at the hot end, but the temp would drop too much at night if we didn't have the radiator too).
It works well. I like it. Smile

Personally, i would avoid placing a water bowl directly under or above a heat source. I wouldn't like to drink warm water. I don't think my animals would either!!! Just my opinion.

fair point but i do tend to change the water quite often and seeing that i use cat litter trays for my water bowls it would be a large amount of water to heat Very Happy
