Hi
I have a new beardie, who is around 10 weeks old.

Every night when the lights go off he goes into the corner of the vivarium and digs at the sand for 5-10 mins until he finally goes to sleep right in the corner.
Any idea why?

Could it be that he is trying to get away from the light still coming though into his viv (he's in the lounge) as he always digs in the corner where it is darkest?
Should I provide him with some sort of dark hide area for him to go into?
If I do, wont the crickets get in there and be hard to remove at night?

Thanks

Mine do this too, sometimes. It would be an idea to provide a few hide areas, in the warm and cool areas. If you use hides that can be picked up, then removing crickets shouldnt be a problem.
What is your temperature gradient? It should be from about 25-30, with a hot spot of about 35. It drop to about 25 at night. If the viv is too hot or cold that might be why he is burrowing?

OK, i didn't really provide hide areas at the shop where I bought him said it wasn't necessary and encouraged him to hide away from the UV light.

I think the temperatures are OK, about 35 in the hot end and 25 in cool.
It does drop down to about 18 sometimes on a cold night though, but I was under the impression this was OK?

cheers

I was under the impression these guys in the wild would like to dig/slightly burrow at night to sleep its safer for them. in captivity its just instinct. My beardie is just wierd then lol he climbs to the highest point of the viv and lays in leaves like a hamuk
