Hi. I'm looking at getting a royal and was wondering what is the best heat source to use? some ppl say heat mats but Ive heard of thermal burning when they get bog from staying on them for long periods. Is it best to use a Ceramic heat bulb or reptile radiator? Any help greatly appreciated.

Heat mats are fine if regulated by a stat..

i use a hear mat covered by a flat piece of slate, with a stat. I believe that using overhead heaters can cause the viv to have a too low humidity causing shedding problems. just make sure that the stat probe is situated close to the heat mat for accurate control

my probes are ON the mat or whatever is covering it. just make sure widdle cant reach it. or if your snake is in a tub, the heat mat and stat can be underneath on the outside, this saves any worry about it getting wet. set the stat for 90, then keep measuring the heat inside the tub until you have it right.

I assume that this would be for a viv.

personally i would use a ceramic heat bulb with guard, i am not a fan of heat mats unless used under a tub.

only my view

actually i prefer heat mats although i do have a ceramic in the boa viv. as long as no water can get to them they are great. and they must be statted. i find though the boa is more active with the ceramic in her viv. which was very kindly fitted by my local reptile shop owner. thanks to him, and to his wife for lending him to me!! Very Happy
to fit the ceramic!!!!!

Hi. I will be using a thermostat on which ever heat source i use. I use stats with all my rep Viv's. So It seems a heat mat will be fine.It will be in a 3ft x 18 x 18 inch Viv if i do get it (be a rescue snake owner moved but couldn't take the snake) Snake will be roughly about 2 ft in length not sure on the girth tho. I 17 x 11inch heat mat be fine??
