I've downloaded Metzcat and been trying to set it all up properly before I start adding animals in, and i'm buggered if I can get it to import the new files I've downloaded from their site. It might as well be written in Latin. And I call my self Director of and IT Company Embarassed I like the look of this piece of software and think it would be really good, but does anyone else use something that is easier to set up, with idiots guides to setting it up? Laughing Tis the wrong time of year for me to be trying to get this done when I have a billion other things to do, I've been sat her almost 2 hours already! Embarassed Laughing

I had the same problem so I employed the best 'software ' ever .....

wee black book and pen .....! honestly its better ( think unbacked up hard drive !!!! )

wee small book for each snake , kept in room with . bet its quicker than the PC as well.

pete I wrote a reply exactly the same...... the only problem is I pressed new topic rather than new reply!! Very Happy
Yeah I go with a notepad and a pencil...... I did make a spreadsheet with columns such as fed, shed etc etc, you enter a date at and then select the relevant box and it automatically filled that box with a tick....but then I got too many animals,
The other really cool way of doing it would be to have a pda and use the little stylus to jot notes as you go then upload to pc.

Thanks for the info guys Very Happy One of the things I liked about the look of Metzcal was the ability to keep track of parents off spring etc, but I think I'll get the other half to write a spreadsheet for all that instead, at least I'll be able to use it, and the good old book and pen method for the rest Laughing

At least you don't have to rebuild a pad and pen Laughing

This is the program i use as well and me also being into IT (i'm an IT Consultant) I always make sure my HDD is backed up, so if you are like me and do have a good backup routine then software is the way to go and Degei is perfect for the task.

I have developed a little excel spreddy if any of you want to use it. It has validated fields and makes it easy to pull down from the menus. Its pretty simple stuff but fairly useful..

http://www.off-the-wall-photography.com/snake/RoyalPython.xls

Please feel free to use it and abuse it as you see fit.. I've attached a pic of the spreddy in use and the pull-down menus..

I use an apple mac and don't know of any management systems for the mac.

Funny you should mention that, Hubby has just written me one very similar in Access Very Happy I'll wave yours at him though, as he hasn't quite got to grips with the funddamentals of snake/reptile keeping and all the data I want to be able to hold Laughing

Where can I get Degai from, I tried google and couldn't find it, unless I'm being a thicky again and look in the wrong place Rolling Eyes Laughing
