here's a few pics of some grass snakes i hope to breed next year, I'm feeding them up at the mo getting ready to hibernate them, a couple are still assist feed but the rest are taking dead fish by themselves.

they're in the garage at the mo in large stacker's with news paper for ease of cleaning. Once i feel they are ready to hibernate i won't feed them for two weeks then turn the heat mats off then let them warm up naturally in spring. |

did you catch them from the wild or did you buy them? i thought keeping native reptiles was illegal _________________ Tom

yes Snakeguys right its perfectly legal to catch grass snakes but only legal to sell their offsprings offspring. |

My fitrst snake was a grass snake. We though 'they come from damp areas like marshes etc' so we kept it in a humid viv with moss etc. Jasper didn't last very long - died of some nasty skin disease caused by the damp. Subsequently we kept them in vivs a bit like corn snakes, only perhaps a bit cooler and with a big water bowl and they did fine. the upshot is that althought they might like swimming etc, it is essential that they have somewhere to bask and let their skin dry out. |
