|
Hi - I think I see a hairline crack in aretaon egg and when I looked with a lens i saw mites I tried to rinse in soapy water but not sure what else to do - any suggestions? I cannot tell if it is actually cracked or mark on the egg. Can I use a bleach solution? I only have about 1/2 doz. eggs.
thanks

Throw it away.
Easier that than it spreading. _________________ MORE THAN 2! |

Separate it from the rest, and if it is a crack, I wonder if maybe using some candle wax to seal it - stopping the mites from entering. probably less harmful than bleach!?

hmmm... I have so few and I am new to the hobby so wanted to try and save it. Not sure if the little buggers may have already spread. I hate (and fear) mites more than anything on this planet.

there's an interesting thought. I wonder if that would make it difficult for hatchling to get out? I suppose if I just carefully painted it on... The poor thing may already be dead. I am not used to to these at all as I deal mainly with moth eggs. I suppose I have nothing to lose at this point so I will give it a try and will just be careful not to seal over the little cap. |

As long as you make sure it can get out, it should (or maybe that should say could!) work. Heard of it working with reptile eggs - nut no idea on inverts! _________________

Aretaon asperrimus lays eggs in the soil. The besy way to ensure they hatch is to bury them. Make sure that the 'lid' of the egg is upright and bury it about 1/2" below the surface.
They should hatch 3 months after being laid.
