hi everyone was just feeding my leopard geckos and handling them and noticed my female Evies tail is injured one of the ridged sections is torn.
I think it could of been my male as he can tend to latch on to the females tails when he is in the 'mood for some loving' but usually lets go as soon as the females show they are uncomfortable. Either that or a stray cricket Evil or Very Mad
I'm going to take her to the vets tomorrow but gave the wound a clean with luke warm salty water is there anything else i can do in the meantime?
And i have also quarantined her in a sterile tank with just kitchen paper and normal and moist hides, water ,calcium dish .
was going to post pics but didn't want any squeamish people to be Shocked
Thanks Gemma

I couldn't get an appointment:( i don't think it will heal itself its really bad. But she is lively in herself and eating and drinking plenty.
Sorry to anyone that is squeamish just felt the pic would show the severity of the wound better than my description, sorry about the poor quality of pics they were taken with my mobile.

hmm i would suggest keep trying to get an appointment but untill then keep it clean like i said tamodine or vetadine is brilliant but with outthat sudocrem is good also u can get a bandagethat is self sticky i was geiven some by a vet but u can now buy fo humans, it's not sticky si it doesn't stick to scales an skin so this good for the reps it will help to keep the area clean an stop anything getting into the wound, i bought ours bandage from superdrugs, obviously cut to size for the tail, atfirst she willhate that it's on but will get used to it,

Hi,

One of my Geckos has the exact same injury caused by a cage mate.

I called the vet and explained the problem and they said no need to come in unless it became infected/didn't heal. The wound look really really nasty when it first happened and I thought "how can this possibly heal" but it is doing fine now.

I separated the geckos, and placed the injured one in a sterile tank with kitchen paper as substrate which I've been changing daily (and disinfecting the tank each day again)

I've been cleaning the wound with Tamodene Wound Cleanser and it is healing very nicely now. She went off her food a bit after it happened but managed to stimulate appetite again using wax worms and some Reptoboost for 2 days. She is now eating well again, and very much on the mend.

Hope yours gets better soon, hopefully you will have the same experience as me and even though it looks horrible now it should heal OK if you keep it clean and in a sterile place.

I also managed to use a Cotton bud to move the skin back in place, it has re-attached and doing well. One piece didn't re-attach though which dried out and fell off, new skin is growing back.
