|
I know I may be repeating other questions asked by other newbie T. keepers, but Im very particular in what I hope to get, and just wanted some advise on the right and wrong way to do it!
Ive been wanting a large Mex Red Knee for a number of years now, but have never been in a possition to buy one, untill now... imagine my utter shock and exitement, when I realised Im living 30 seconds away from thespidershop! I know Lee, and have bought live foods from him before, but only yesterday myself and my kids went over for a peek!
Would it be sensible to get a large, handleble spider, and which is more aggresive, males or females? Any help or advise would be great, as Im very impatient, and into instant-gratification!!!! _________________ 1.1.7 Bearded Dragons

Thanks for replies! I should stick to the beatiful Reds, I think!
Do all T.s need a heat mat, and the ones that do, do they also need a mat stat, as the spider set up kits dont come with one?
Could I get away with keeping them on top of a stable temp viv? _________________ 1.1.7 Bearded Dragons

I keep all of my Ts at room temp, except if it gets really cold in winter they are all doing fine eating and shedding well and doing generally spidery things _________________ Theres nothing right on the left side of my head and nothing left on the right |

RED KNEE .... Can and usually will kick hairs
CHILE ROSE ....Probably the best starter spider
CURLY HAIR .....Can be nervous and kick hair but not too bad in general
WHITE KNEE..... Not recommended to be handled by beginners
RED RUMP ..... Can be nervous and can kick hairs
BLOOD LEG .... Have not personally kept so cannot comment
PINK TOE .... Placid but nervous and very fast
For a first time Tarantula i would recommend either a Chile Rose (Grammastola rosea) or a Brazilian black (Grammastola pulcher)
Why not ask Lee ? Who better to ask ????
A few of my T's

I dont mind a few hairs either (well I wouldnt with over 80 Brachypelmas, would I ? )
But I wouldnt reccomend a german spider (Herr Flikker = hair flicker ...geddit ? ) as a first spider especially with children.
There a several types of the so called 'white knee tarantula', with the Acanthoscurria geniculata being the most commonly availiable. They are moderately aggressive, and their urticating hairs can be quite irritating to human skin. These spiders have a tendency to bite but fortunately they are not very venomous.

Very brief info on genic's

There is a very special reason for that particular coke can to be there, I think I have had it for about 6-7 years just waiting for the right time to use it. _________________ People laugh at me because I am different
