Define deadliest ?
The most potent venom or the most fatalities or the highest bite rate ?
All of these will depend on whch continent you are on.
Africa would have to be the puff adder or the carpet viper for fatalities and bite rate.
Indian subcontinent would have to be the russells viper and one of the cobras for fatalities and bite rate
North America would have to be the cotton mouth and the western diamond back for the highest bite rate but due to the many medical facilities there are very few deaths unlike the 3rd world countries which have very few.
Australia would have to be inland taipan for most potent venom but to date no-one has ever died after been bitten and very few people have ever been bitten. For the most fatalities and highest bite rate this must go to the coastal tiapan and the brownsnake.

Going by Seve Irwin i thought it was the Inland Taipan, but like u say many people have many different opinions depending on what u define as deadliest ... _________________ Cheers

on LD50 its the inland taipan but as we know its perhaps not the best method to work out toxicity on humans, the snake that kills the most people in the world is probably the deadliest. _________________ Theres nothing right on the left side of my head and nothing left on the right |

I watched a documentary on the National Geographic Channel called Dangerous Encounters: Deadliest Snakes.
National Geographic Channel wrote: | National Geographic Channel Reptile Expert Brady Barr has come face to face with some deadly snakes. Now, in Deadliest Snakes, Brady approaches seven of the worlds most dangerous and venomous snakes to determine which snake is the deadliest. He will scientifically investigate each species of snake by grading them on five basic criteria: size, volume and toxicity of venom, personality, and number of human deaths. |
I can't remember the full list but no.1 was the black mamba because no anti venom used to exist until recently, large volume and toxicity of venom, Very aggressive and lots of human deaths.
King cobra was on the list due to it's size and the Inland Taipan was low on the list due to no recorded deaths and being docile. _________________
