i was flicking through some videos of some corns eating dead mice and stumbled across some larger snake eating vids , most of them were feeding dead foods but some were giving live animals , such as pigs , goats and rabbits , obviously they eat live stuff in the wild but surely this is needless in captivity ,as well as the risk of the snake being injured by being bitten. i did look at the comments below the videos and most people seemed to condem this sort of action , i just wondered what youre opinions on live feeding where ?

I might be mistaken, but I thought that live feeding is not legal in this country, UNLESS it is a last resort and you have an animal which cannot be fed by any other method, as It would be inhumane to allow it to starve.
I dont think live feeding is a good idea, there is a chance of the live prey attacking the reptile, Alice Cooper had a snake which died after being bitten by a live rat.

Live feeding isn't illegal in the UK but you can still be prosecuted for causing 'unnecessary suffering'.

i belive that live food should only be given when a snakes not feeding as this usualy gets them feeding again but when healthy snakes are being fed live food theres no need as it could cause more harm than good and will cause the prey alot of stress than is necessary. i hate some of them videos on youtube because most of them are feeding live for the fun of it and laughing whilst doing it Evil or Very Mad also it is not illegal to feed live prey but as scott said you could be prosecuted for unnecessary suffering by the RSPCA etc.

most of the larger live feedings were americans as you can hear there voices in the background , and they were lauhging at the goat being crused .

thank you for clearing up the legality bit, and yes, I have seen some of those videos and find them sick to say the least.

some people get their kicks in twisted ways, personally a live baby goat is far too cute to feed to your pet snake, in America it is legal and as someone said most of those vids are from the US, I would never do it for the hell of it, if it had to be done in order to save a life then I wouldnt have a choice.

This is the problem with youtube. People in the UK that dont know better are likely to see these and think "how cool, I can feed my snake a live whatever when my mates are round to show how hard i am". I've spoken to people that claim to have fed live myself. Most of the time its probably rubbish and they are trying to sound 'cool' but still...
I'm not even slightly animal rightsy but I dont condone cruelty. My brother got an earful the other day after laughing at a videa of a cat on LSD. I have a strong stomach and very few things bother me but I felt physically sick after seeing the cat panicking and convulsing as it no doubt hallucinated something horrible. Its all totally unessesary and is just encouraging such behaviour. Every one made a big fuss about youtube allowing videos of teachers being bullied by students... yet for any one willing to look there are some horrific videos of blatant animal cruelty going unnoticed.

Yeah, I watched a bunch of lizard videos before and came across the live feeding ones.
Theres a difference between feeding live food because its necessary and feeding live food because you're a complete w***er who gets pleasure from watching animals suffer. And most of the vids on youtube like this are just posted for "entertainment value". Makes me quite angry. Evil or Very Mad
If I ever met one of them people, I wouldn't mind throwing them to a croc/shark/lion etc and see if they still thought live feeding was ok! Or if it's still hilarious when they scream in pain as their limbs are torn from their body or internal organs slowly crushed. I think then they might see a different side of it. Evil or Very Mad

Sorry, needed to vent.. Embarassed lol
