Thanks guys!

I got my first pair at Houten '06, and loved them to bits. They did breed for me, but I didn't separate them the first time - the male ate the babies and the female got a taste for them too... The female died a few weeks before Houten this year, I have no idea of the age when I got them, but they were fully grown.
I looked for another female for him this year, but only saw some pretty ropey ones. He died last month...

Then a customer came into the shop - he asked if we could order 4 tubs of mealworms for him every week for his Harvest Mice as he had been in 'a disagreement' with the shop he was currently using.
I said ok, and got chatting!

He breeds for release into the UK, but since there are strict rules within conservation groups about how many you can release, he had too many... I cheekily asked if I could buy a pair and he brought me a trio - all unrelated no less! I did umm and ahh about the ethics of having some from a release breeding group, but as he said, by the time he could release more they'd be too old to go.
Legally you can keep and sell captive bred Harvest Mice, and I have failed miserably to find anything more about any regulations surrounding Harvest Mice - there appears to be none.

The older female was pregnant when I got them and immediately dropped three babies (I split her from the other two on the customers advice) and she raised them fine - they're the ones in the photo. She now has 5 more in the nest.
The younger female has some maturing to do I think before I see babies from her - she's quite a bit smaller.

I find them fantastic to keep, a bit quick to handle easily, but they show no fear! I don't find them smelly or destructive, the best 'exotic' small mammal I have had the pleasure of keeping.
