Recently I bought a juvenile Crested Gecko, and with it I bought some compressed coco bark (smallest block, which expands). I have recently been wondering if it is really what I should be keeping him on as it seems to be sticking to him, pads, tail, underneath of body. He is only between 6-8 weeks old and I dont want this to harm him.

What should I do? Change it to kitchen roll? If so, how do you maintain humidity? and how much should I put in.

Please help, its distressing seeing him unable to stick to glass because of this.

It could be that you have it too wet?

I have all mine on the same stuff and never have any problems. I compact it down really well when I put it in.

I just spray my viv well at night, which brings the humidity up to about 70%. During the day with the light on it drops to around 60%.

How could I dry it out, it was made up to the exact description on the label, and we dont over water at night. So I dont know how it could of got too wet. I will try removing the crested from his viv, into something with paper towels and doing my best to dry it slightly. I really compacted the substrate the other night and I thought this would solve it. Also, when I spray, I dry off the walls, to make sure it doesnt just run into the substrate.

Hmmm, its a puzzler..

I don't actually spray my juvs, instead I let a pot of water drip from the roof down across the plants on the substrate, this keeps the humidity up and stops the whole viv getting too wet.

I've never used the coco bark, just moss peat from B&Q type places, I find this compacts real well to prevent any problems.

If you have any worries etc, switch over to paper towels to play it safe.

I use astro-turf. It's easy to spot clean, you can remove it and rinse it out, it's a pretty soft landing and it looks good too. Very Happy

I use a little polystrene deli cup with a pin hole in the side, this placed on the top of the exo terra and drips directing onto the fake plants and then down into the peat.

If the substrate is looking too wet I miss a night or only do half a cup for a few nights.
