Thanks guys, as you can see he is shedding, so he's not at his best. This is the first time we've actually caught him shedding. Very secretive wee guy, but we moved him into an exoterra a few weeks ago and gave him a slightly higher position in the room and he has been a lot more active/visible. _________________ “If in doubt, just say nowt” |

Lovely Tokay. Do you use any substrate for yours? If so can I ask what? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

He's on newspaper. We have branches and lots of artificial plants in there too. _________________

Is he on newspaper because of possible substrate impaction via ingestion? Another question, sorry, are Tokays renowned for woofing down substrate at all. Hard to find decent care sheets on them any hints or tips please? Or good care guide links ta muchly. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Partly because it's easier to clean, partly to prevent substrate ingestion (they can be pretty ferocious when grabbing insects) and partly so that I can spot rogue escapee insects before they get ensconced under the substrate!
They are fairly 'low maintenance' if set up properly, and as they are nocturnal, you don't need UV. As long as you provide cover for them during the day and a basking spot of about 90 degrees (we use a ceramic on top of the viv) they're happy. It's fascinating watching them hunt insects, especially at night.
I have only ever found him to get aggressive when you try to handle him or put your hand too close to him, when he opens his mouth wide and barks (sounds like a loud croak!). He will bite if you try to pick him up: We don't handle him unless he needs to be moved for a clean out.
He gets misted every few days and seems to enjoy that, but he will quite happily drink from his water bowl too. _________________
