Im interested to hear from people who are breeding fat tail gecko's and what success they are having with them. I only breed the Albino's and although have alot hatching i am also loosing alot of eggs like alot of other breeders are. Im interested to know if this is something that is just with the albino type or with normalls too, anyone care to share there experiences?

I had 7 eggs from an 'albino' x 'albino' last year, all failed apart from one which hatched, but the neonate died soon after.

However, I've put that down to that specific female. She lays two eggs every 14-16 days when shes producing, and she seems to go hell for leather on quantity rather than quality. Her eggs are always a bit on the yellowy and squishy side of things.

I have three eggs incubating currently from an 'albino'(m) x normal stripe(f). All are much more turgid and white than the other female's eggs.

I also have another female amel who refuses to lay anything. I bought her as a proven breeder last summer.

Then theres the fact that my 'albino' male and 'albino' 7-eggs-last-year female are LTC's, and are a completely different colour to the amel/albinos you see aound. I'm trying to prove out wether they are something a bit new and different, but its all going very very slowly with these poor production rates in non-wild-type females.

Just have to wait and learn patience. Sad

PM sent regarding the females for sale.
I too am getting the white and slightly yellow eggs but there seems to be no pattern in what hatches, some mold within days of being incubated and others maybe a few weeks, once hatched though they all do fine, maybe the one you lost was just a week hatchling. Would be good to hear from someone who breeds wild types to see if there are similar problems with hatching there eggs. This year i intend to purchase some CB young from wild caught parents to introduce them to some of my albino's next season.

i have only two het females this year with an amel, and so far have had good egg production, and lost one egg in the incubator and that was due to my own fault. i think my first 1 should hatch any day now!i have a friend that has breeds loads of them and dont think he has many losses!(makes me jealous). so i try to copy him Smile,
i have found that fat tails are harder to breed than leos.but with abit of luck they will hatch (touch wood).

I keep mine the same as my Leo's and find they breed just as easy as the Leo's and egg production isnt a problem its the quality of the eggs and the incubation of them where it goes down hill a little.

i seem to keep my eggs a little damper than the leos eggs!but when they are laid the eggs look better or as good as the leos in colouration.

That's exactly what I found last year.

I had perfect looking eggs suddenly mould over and die within a week.
I had naff looking eggs grow fantastic veins and have visible embryos, then die around the 60 day mark.

^^ These two eggs were laid (by my white female) in september but by november had completely failed. They were covered in mould and completely deflated.

The singe hatchling I did have was incubated at 83F, but didn't hatch untill day 84. When it did hatch it was quite premature looking, with pliable limb bones. It died within 8hrs of hatching before being taken out of the incubator.

My white albinos are both LTC's. (The male has some old rib-breaks and a scar on his stomach from a snare).
My amel/albino is CB (near Northampton to be precise Laughing )
My normal stripe is a WC. She's only been out of qtine a few months and has already thrown me three very good eggs.

^^ Comparing my amel/albino female and my white 'albino' male under natural light. This photo was taken mid last year, the male has beefed up alot more now. I really should take a more updated comparison shot but my white's have MUCH more light hypersensitivity than amel/albinos and I'm a bit reluctant. They get very stressed under bright light, you can see him clamping his eyes shut and that was under overcast sky brighness. Would be nice to prove him out though wouldn't it? Laughing

I hope it isn't a defective gene issue amongst non-wild type fat tails!

The Tangerine one in the photo looks very nice, do you still have any good eggs from her?

Nope, I've never had a single egg off her!

Still, I have only had her from late last summer, and I'm pretty sure she has ovulated since I've had her. Trouble is she's a fussy mare, the man who bred her breeds crickets, so all her life she's had farm-fresh crix. She turns her nose up at anything but the very finest brown crix. I've only just got her taking waxies!

Hopefully she'll consider dropping some eggs this season.
