I agree with you there Lynne, i don't agree with the "blood lines" and for the most part taking animals from the wild is morally wrong, but i think there are some exceptions in which it should be allowed. Smile
Eg. to preserve species or help a species in the wild, but not just to stick it in a cage for amusement, that is what cb animals are for.

I know that sounds about horrible but its reality, and in this para i mean animals in general not snakes or lizards.

Steve

ps. in my last post i put jokes instead of jobs???
damn dyslexia lol

Well it is. I never thought this way until that discussion. I disagree with the keeping of birds full stop. I think dogs and cats etc are OK, as are certain species like insects, arachnids, certain frogs etc

So, should we? As an owner of reps should we be keeping them? does it cause them any discomfort?

Lol it feels like we are going to go in a loop.

I love animals, i went to college and did 4 years of animal science, i keep reptiles, ive worked in a zoo, a reptile shop and a few aquariums and ive done farm work.

Its all i can every imagen doing its what i love. So for me we should, but only in a respectable responsible manor, where the animal is show up most respect and give A1 care.

I personally think fish are the one group that suffer most, people are ignorant and forget that they are animals too, and are seen more like invertebrates. Fish are quite complex to care for....well maybe not complex but require alot more attention than what owners believe they need.

Totally agree there.
As a fish keeper myself I know that for sure.

I know of somebody personally who bought pacu (not having a clue what it was therefor the basic PH, GH, TEMP AND most of all space needed) and put it in his 4x2x2 with malawis..then his community livebearers..

christ i wouldnt put my worst enemy with malawis. they are terrific parents though, dont you think,
as lizard man, i have always kept animals etc. but i tend to think of them not as things, but as my companions. i try to keep them as they should be kept. i dont underfeed or more importantly power feed. if they breed they breed, if they dont, i couldnt care less. keeping them correctly and making them happy and content is what i strive for.
maybe we shouldnt keep them, but i really believe the cb ones we have now wouldnt survive in the wild, so i will continue keeping them.

pacus....there are some fish which are just unrealistic as pets (as far as size is concerned), i don't know what it is about them but they have always made me laugh, pacu that is. ive served to many people that just think you buy a fish tank put fish in and think its pot luck if they live or not, and if they don't they empty the tank and start again, or think they have been sold an animal that isn't in top health and then you find out they don't do water changes and feed at least 2-3 times a day and haven't the foggiest about water tests. I could rant on about fish all day long.

But at the end of the day its just some people have not been told or guided and some people will listen, which is quite a relief, i can explain the feeling.

Cichlids are a very interesting group, you get some amazing looking fish aswell.

People have their different methods and that is why there wont be an answer to the question of this topic, its individual opinion and preference.
With some of my lizards i "stagger" feed and not provide crickets for 4 or so days occasionally to stimulate the fact they isn't always going to find food. my beardie as active as it was when she was a baby, not like some you see which are over weight and just sit there all day watching food walk past.

the forums here to write your opinions on differant stuff. some folk wont agree, so resort to sarcasm, they know who i mean. we cant all agree all the time. but as long as we can agree to disagree without resorting to insults, everything should be fine.
most off us dont keep EVERYTHING 100% perfect. that includes the folk i mean earlier in this post. Very Happy Very Happy
