Well every-ones used to scary looking herps.........not scary looking enthusiasts. To be serious the image is being used for a series of talks and I didn't want my picture in it. Laughing

Cant say exactly how I got this particular bite but as I did I ***ked up.

Luckily I managed to keep it out of the papers as these thing invariably get into press and give snakes an even harder time.

working in conservation that's the last thing I want.

I've got a whole series of shot of me seconds after the bite and on through the envenomation process..

Nurses and doctors were more than happy to take pictures of me.

They did it with nice smiles though I suspect they were thinking What Dickhead Laughing .

Cant disagree as it shouldn't of happened.

Still as the old add-age goes " play with fire and eventually you get burnt"

Felt sorry for the adder imaging the nasty taste it got in its mouth.

Shocked [/i]

Why?

There is no good reason i can think of, especially as it may save some other "highly experienced native herper" from doing the same thing.

Its not that i unprepared to say how I got bitten its just that I'm not sure.

I was working in an area where there is still a healthy population of adders and looking for a particular snake. I wasn't free handling or anything as that isn't something i ever do.

I think I was concentrating on looking at one and never saw the one I put my hand on though I cannot be sure.

Result as described and very embarrassing!

Mind you I got some serious ear bashing from my wife Rolling Eyes

i would be interested in doing something like this. don't know a lot about natives, especially the amphibian and lizard sides of the UK, but would sure do it. i'll bring beer tokens lol. i take it this thread is a bit old now due to it being almost winter but...?
unlucky on the adder bite. my dog got bitten by an adder 1-2 months ago, and it was less than a 50-50 chance that he would make it, but he pulled through. two clear puncture wounds on his right leg. pushing his nose into something he REALLY shouldn't have this time...

Hey guys,
Those of you interested in surveying British herps might want to get in contact with your local Amphibian and Reptile Group - they are always looking for willing volunteers to help out on surveys. Try the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme websites for details http://narrs.org.uk Wink
