Hi Ailurus, your ambient room sounds really good tbh, warmer than my house anyway lol

18 may be at the lower end of the 'accpeted' range, but if yours are utalising the entire space and thermoregulating fine, moving around, eating and pooping. Then I think that's fine.

I would be more concerned if they were staying at the cool end, not moving and started to refuse meals.

You could add another heat spot, or could you move the mat (you are using a mat? I'm loosing my thought trail here lol) 5 inches or so, down the viv, so the lowest temp rises slightly.

I'm having to play around with temps this winter too, it's a pain I know, but at the moment the weathers incredably mild, something to keep our eyes on I think.

great thanks peaches. yes i am using a mat lol. which so as not to avoid young gun, cannot be touched by the snake at all, it iis impossible for that to happen.

Don't be a tit.

I was trying to offer some advice about potential hazards that I have seen happen.

Ceramics and spotlights usually heat either the substrate or something underneath it, for my vittys I have a big slab of rock under the bulb, this heats up and they lie on it.

that was very quick. Shocked lynne like you i have always used heat mats with my snakes and my house is usually hot anyway. i am aware of the dangers of using mats so I am interested in learning alternative ways of heating. Young Gun thanks for your reply i just thought they heated the air so that info is very helpfull.
