At present they're in a 6'x2'x3' fish tank, divided into 4' water/2' land. When they outgrow it (around 5 years or so, they'll be going out into an aviary with a pond. _________________ www.theherphouse.com & http://alleycatz.curvedspaces.com -our homes away from home! |

No mate, both freshies & salties are pretty easy to obtain, & quite cheap, really. I'd guess this is because the cost of setting up a suitable enclosure for a mature specimen would limit the market somewhat.
Actually, I should qualify that statement. Although captive-bred or farmed crocs are relatively plentiful & are easy to obtain without too much effort, there are only 2 states legally entitled to keep them: Victoria & Northern Territory. Victoria has the somewhat annoying situation that although our Wildlife Dept allows you to own any number of crocs of any size on your licence, quite a number of local councils have bylaws that limit the size you may keep them to, usually around 4 1/2 feet. Our council are pretty good, being happy to be guided by DSE (wildlife dept) regs, but we went with the freshies (average 6-7') to avoid rocking the boat too much I'm not too sure that metro Melbourne is either ready or set up for a suburban backyard full of 30' 2 ton monsters! _________________ www.theherphouse.com & http://alleycatz.curvedspaces.com -our homes away from home! |
