well my cyanea have hatched out hehe

out of 5 good eggs ive had 3 perfect babys hatch

i decided to cut the eggs knowing just how hard the shells are on this species,

temps were 29.8-30.2c

i cut the eggs on day 76 early i know but 2 of the 5 eggs had gone off so i cut um open to find 2 fully formed ready to hatch cyanea so did all of them which im glade i did now

That's fantastic news.

I caught my two bonking last week so hopefully I shall have some eggs soon and the joys of thick shells.

Just a couple of questions.

During incubation were the egg subjected to any light or where the eggs covered? The reason I am asking is perhaps exposing the eggs to light causes the shell to thicken.

and

I notice on the cutting you took out a large section instead of just a small incision is this a preference on your part or is this the best method?

Wil.

thanks stu, yer im ok thanks, well busy with everythink thu,

cheers jon fingers crossed

hi will, the only reason i cut them open was the fact that there were two eggs that went off with fully formed babys in if there formed the others must of been, and the section taken out of the eggs is because i prefer it as there isnt an excus that they cant get out as long as you dont cut the membrain its fine, there hatch as normal, just raised humidty when i did that, as for the hard shell its a well known fact that boiga eggs are hard, these were never exposed to light other that inspections, i cover them with a piece of kitchen role and replace that daily

Im chuffed for you Karl. They do look gorgeous, best of luck with them

I've done the same with my nigriceps eggs , theyre on day 103 today( they took around 100 days last time). But Ive only made tiny slits. I might make larger openings like you have done. Last time they all pipped but one didnt make it out, I wished then that I had cut holes within 24 hours.

THey're feeding really well and are getting very long now. They take 3 pinkies each feed. Hopefully I will have more later this week.
