I keep both, imo FWC are boring fat lumps, I really don't see the appeal (no offence, just my opinion, to qualify, I am an arboreal fan). Vine snakes are stunning.......stunning and stunning. They can also be very tricky to feed. I have a pair that feed on mice (thanks Dan) and a pair that are, best described as tricky!

If you are looking for an interesting and attractive snake the Vines win hands down! If you want a snake you will succeed with, go for the FWC.

I believe FWC are used as a 'trainer' sp., as they have a bad enough bite that you treat them as venomous. Black racers, Tree boas etc are good (i.e. can be aggressive) but you still know they are harmless and therefore psychologically treat them differently. FWC are good in this respect.

If aggression was the key, I would go for Chrysopelia. If you don't get bitten your snake is dead!

Cheers

Mark

Wow another person who doesn't see why the FWC or should I say brazilian smooth snake, is such a sought after snake. Just basically a medium sized boid with a tiny amount of venom. I will admit having just seen some hatchlings that they are quite pretty but I'm not fussed on the adults.

LOL, not all flying snakes are like that but I do know what you mean, when the shop had the last one in it must have nailed me 20 times before I'd got it out of the viv (and I just grabbed it, no hesitation). But just before it went, it was only giving the odd strike when you first went in, then would settle down. Stunning species though.

ive never kept fwc before but everything ive heard makes me think they arent difficult to keep in the least as far as husbandry goes.

i have kept vine snakes, and they were quite easy as well. i never bothered trying to switch them to mice, as i had easy access to anoles to feed them. i happened to think they were one of the easiest snakes i have ever kept, and gorgeous to boot.

although mine never did this, i found this picture today and thought you might enjoy and it also may help swing the vote. haha

Hey thanks for the info folks!!!
That picture swung it for me i think, they are stunning!!
Just one question about them, would a 6ft tall 4ft wide and 2ft deep viv be ok for them?? Or will have to extend my viv a bit more?
Also do you know where I can get my hands a pair?
Cheers, rob Very Happy
