Another thing to look at maybe, is that string holding the branch on the right? if so, after a long period in high humidity etc, constantly getting wet and drying out etc, couldnt that eventually rot the string away? its happened to me before, so i use the garden twistie things, like the sandwich bag twistix, just make sure all the pointy metal bits are on the outside of the tank, i dunno, just an idea. _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

It looks pretty good. You could try using aquarium backing for the back or sides of the tank as others have mentioned. You can get ones with a rainforest style print on them. Alternatively you could use coco moir panel on the back and train plants up it. _________________

Cheers for all the help
Ill go and get a background before Saturday when I pick up the lizard.
Also I think I will add maybe a couple of smallish plants to the front and remove the plastic log thing that I have got.
Temperature wise its about 65F at the bottom and 68F at the top so it looks like I'm going to need to increase the temperature a little bit.
When people spray their terrariums how many sprays do people normally do and where do they aim it at? (I know its a random question )

i mist everynight just before lights out, and i spray each side of the terrarium, and the plants, i usually just keep one corner dry (im picky like that hehe) and i usually give it a good 5-6 sprays i guess, hard to think without counting, i just make sure eaxh side is covered in droplets, and the plants are dripping, _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

Cheers for that.
Just a thought but if my gecko is still only a baby would adding more plants not be a bad idea as Ive been told in the past not to over crowd the terrarium so that they can find their food easily when young? |

well i guess not completely fill it, but just provide a good few hiding places, so the gecko can completely hide itself, but then obviously not so the floor is invisible or that he/she cant jump from one to another, i usually just have one dark hide in each corner on the floor, one plant in each top corner, and then a few crossing branches etc, il find you a pic.....
not sure if its clear, bu this formula works fine in all my vivs. _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

OK so taking into account what you have all told me here is attempt two.
Ive added another weeping fig and another artificial plant.
I got a nice rock background that I have attached to the rear of the terrarium.
Ive also now got the heater working.
Ive set up so the repti hammock is a constant 77.5 F and the thermometer at the bottom on the plant pot reads around 68 F.
At night this will all drop by 10 F.
Whats the coldest I should let the terrarium drop to?
I thought Id include a pic of my prototype light holder as I will make something a little more permanent soon.
Let me know what you think of how I have set this up.

The viv looks great Nice job
The heating looks a bit unnecessary if you don't mind me saying. Cresteds are fine at room temp, if your house is really that cold I think a small low wattage heat mat on the back of the vivarium would suffice for any extra heat needed, a bit cheaper than the dimmer stat + light setup you opted for too. That's just me though _________________ Steve P |
