Anyone want to comment on this.

She was a fresh wild caught Rhino viper (mine about 8 years ago). I bought a pair but the female looked totally different in colour, pattern and even head shape. The male was typical Rhino with lots of green and also was difficult to get going like a lot of WC rhino vipers are but this female was a greedy feeder and very much more like wc gaboons I have dealt with in the past.

Sorry for the bad pic, it's a digital photo from my old 'hard copy', colours were far more intense with the real snake.

Looks to me just like a B. nasicornis...they have reported to be extremely variable in their range, some like yours lacking green and some lacking red. The problem with B. gabonica and nasicornis is because they are so variable on their own, it can be difficult to distinguish, or easy to assume, their may have been some hybridising. The same goes with B. parviocula which also looks extremely similar.

Great snake though, and I guess no one would no for sure what it was exactly unless it's still around? Also the photo may not have done it justice, would've very useful if there was a headshot becuase that would have been where the easiest identification could have been made. Thanks for posting and finally digging the photo's out! Certainly an extremely interesting snake, if it was found to be a naturally occurring hybrid it would've been great to do a paper on Cool

I would tend to agree with James. Fascinating looking animal all the same. Is that the only pic Scott?

Very interesting snake Scott. I've had a wee play with the photo to bring the colours out a wee bit more, must say she is stunning.

I'm afraid that is the only photo (i think) and the snake is no longer alive Sad .

I have heard of naturally occuring hybrids, can't remember where though.

certainly was a cracking snake, thanks Wink

gabino

they are produced by a breeder in America i think, don't quote me on it i think he pairs them up and hybridizes if that's the right word but either way they're both stunning
